Exhibition of environmental challenges

10/07/2008 11:08:00 AM
A travelling exhibition has arrived at the Tenterfield Library and is set to make a big impact.

The display came from the State Library of New South Wales and displays tragic and heroic stories behind environmental challenges in Australia. It is named ‘Impact: a changing land’.

Manager of Library and Cultural Services Robin Riley applied to get the exhibition to Tenterfield and believes it will help increase local awareness of environmental issues shaping our country.

“This display will increase awareness of where we came from and are going to,” she said.

“The video has quite a few inspiring speakers on it. I hope people come along and have a look.”

Stories included in the display deal with issues of drought, whaling and land clearing and preservation. Stories are told through a mix of mediums including an audio visual display, photographs and artworks. The audio visual display includes an interview of Tim Flannery who was Australian of the Year in 2007.

The display will remain at the library until Monday, July 21. The exhibition will then continue its journey around NSW to other libraries.
