Hospital “nothing but helpful”

16/05/2008 2:02:00 PM
STAFF at Tenterfield PAM Hospital were described as being “nothing but helpful” when a Wallangarra resident’s son was involved in an accident on a private road.

Kylie Hall described how her four-year-old son Kaleb was riding his motorcycle last Wednesday at 2.45pm on the private 25 kmph-limited road in a fenced cul-de-sac when he collided with an oncoming car.

“Kaleb was riding around the paddocks of our home and went to ride around my mother’s parked car,” Mrs Hall said.

“The lady (driving the oncoming car) hit the left side of the motor bike, causing him to go up into the air, onto the bonnet, into the windscreen, up into the air, and flat on his back onto the road.

“I called the ambulance and they arrived within 20 minutes.”

Kaleb was wearing protective body armour, boots and a helmet and was described by Mrs Hall as “driving at a reasonable speed”.

“I didn’t let him move, it was such a big hit,” she said.

The ambulance transported Kaleb to Tenterfield Hospital. Once there Kaleb was X-rayed from head to waist to check for any internal injuries from the accident.

“The nurses at the hospital checked on Kaleb numerous times to see that he was coping OK,” Mrs Hall said.

“He stayed there for observation.”

Kaleb initially had a sore neck, back and legs from the accident. He ended up being “fine”, with only a scratch to the neck.

“I thought the hospital was really great,” Kylie said.

“They were nothing but helpful. I have seven kids, so I’m up there quite a lot.”
