The Tenterfield Playgroup has moved into their new permanent home outfitted with new play equipment for the children to enjoy. The new facility will allow the playgroup to increase their group days from one to two a week.

The previous venue for the group was the Girl Guide hall but this facility no longer suited their needs. The group now enjoys the new modern facility that is warm and accommodating for the children and parents, according to publicity officer Marion Saxby.

“This was part of a joint initiative with Tenterfield council, the RSL and the playgroup,” Mrs Saxby said.

“It’s cool in summer and warm in winter. People don’t like to take their kids out when there are changes of temperature.”

Playgroup has been using the new accommodation for over a month and is having a great response from the parents, but the best response is coming from the children.

“The kids spend all their time on the play equipment except for when they have activities to do,” Mrs Saxby said.

Playgroup co-ordinator, Rachel Townsend, said the new facility could accommodate for an increase in days of playgroup.

“The facility will be used on Mondays and Fridays from 10 am to 12 noon,” Mrs Townsend said.

“It’s open to all members of the community and the first two visits are free.

“We’re well resourced. There are all different play things that promote motor and cognitive skills.”

Skill development in young children is an aim of the group along with developing social skills of the children and parents mixing together in a friendly environment.

“Parents can come together to share information and gain support,” Mrs Townsend said.

“We’ve all got kids the same age. It’s a positive environment to be in.”

Mums, dads and grandparents are welcome to come along to Playgroup which will be having an open day on Monday, July 28 from 10 am to 12 noon. The open day will be a chance for past and future members to view the facility and see what happens in playgroup.
