Police urge rural residents to know their address

15/07/2008 10:18:00 AM
Local police are encouraging rural resi-dents to get in the habit of using their RMB (Rural Mailbox). The numbers are outside most drive-ways in the shire and are signified by a yellow signpost.

The number on the post indicates how far the premises are from the start of the road. For example the signpost pictured is 8.73 km from the last road.

Police urge rural residents to contact their phone service provider to make sure their phone address has an RMB number attached to it in case of emergency. All rural residents should get in the habit of using their full address: property name, RMB, road and suburb so that in the case of an emergency it be-comes second nature to use the RMB number. It will allow emergency services and in particular ambulance and fire to find the correct property with-out life threatening delays.

“Use of the RMB number in a emergency could be a life or death matter” said Acting Serg-eant Steve Munn of Tenterfield Police Station.
