Putting Tenterfield in the spotlight

25/09/2008 11:06:00 AM
Tenterfield was one of two NSW councils to showcase its country lifestyle to Brisbane’s city dwellers at Country Week Queensland over the weekend.

In a move that surprised many of the Queensland locals, Inverell and Tenterfield shires both had a considerable presence at the expo, showing the advantages of country living and the opportunities on offer in rural areas.

Many of the Queenslanders were interested in the climate of northern New South Wales and the proximity of towns like Tenterfield to Brisbane.

Tenterfield Shire Council Business Services Officer Harry Bolton said, “The Queenslanders are really interested in a centre like Tenterfield that has four distinct seasons in a year.

“It’s often been considered that Brisbane and South East Queensland is the market we should be looking at when attracting people to move to Tenterfield.

“Sydney is too far away when we are encouraging people to relocate.”

Mr Bolton organised and promoted Tenterfield’s attendance at the exhibition and commented that this year had been very positive and worthwhile.

“People who attended were very keen on seeking a lifestyle change and there was a genuine interest in employment opportunities and real estate options within the Tenterfield Shire area”, he said.
