Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay has dismissed the suggestion that services would be cut through at the Tenterfield RTA office, saying that he approached the Minister for Roads and received an assurance it would not be reduced.
Mr Torbay believed it was vital for the Tenterfield RTA Motor Registry to continue to operate as the closest other offices are in Glen Innes and Casino.
“Tenterfield Shire Council raised the issue of the RTA services being provided,” Mr Torbay said.
“I made an approach to the Minister for Roads whose portfolio includes the RTA and received a written assurance that the service would not be reduced.”
Mr Torbay held discussions with council on Tuesday about other suggestions that the Tenterfield Court will reduce the opening hours available to the public. Mr Torbay and members of the council are organising to have a meeting with local stakeholders in the community about the situation.
“The council has been proactive in meeting with local solicitors,” Mr Torbay said.
“The physical requirements at court I believe need to be improved. A full range of justice services needs to be properly provided.”
